Mango and Banana Sunset Lassi

Mango and banana lassi

Recently I was invited to take part in the Tesco Eat Happy Project, working with the Children’s Food Trust, which launched a new online cooking series called Let’s Cookalong over the summer.

Their YouTube cooking videos are designed for parents and children to easily follow together, and are actually really nice to watch. I’d never watched a cooking video with the kids before, and they really enjoyed the film, which shows an adult and two kids making the dish together in the kitchen. They explain in a clear and concise way what equipment and ingredients you need and how to make it.

I was offered the chance to review some Let’s Cook in India videos, as part of this week’s Diwali celebrations. Being massive mango fans in this house (and in particular fans of making mango hedgehogs – see how to do that here!) we decided to try the delicious- and healthy-sounding Mango and Banana Sunset Lassi (recipe card here) and cook along together.

We watched the video and then followed the step-by-step instructions on the website to make our lassi; it was dead easy. Littlest (5) enjoyed measuring out the milk and cutting up the mango and the banana in particular.

We blended the ingredients (she enjoyed controlling the blender switch) and then poured the lassi into a glass and topped it with fresh mint. The verdict? “Absolutely delicious, this is my best drink ever!” Well, you can’t say fairer than that.

We both enjoyed making this together – it’s easy to do, there are some techniques that children can manage and will enjoy, it doesn’t take long, and you end up with a gorgeous drink that all the family can try. It’s a really nice way to spend some quality time together, particularly now the nights are drawing in.
